The Draw-string method. This method is an old and proven system of securing a knife that, unlike Velcro, is quiet and won’t wear out three months later, nor will it allow your folding knife or multi-tool to fall out of your case when you bend over. When removing your folding knife or multi-tool, simply pull the leather draw-string (on just one side if the crown) up over the top of the crown and remove the tool. With a little practice you can have your folding knife or multi-tool in your hand (without looking) ready to go in about 2 seconds.
Draw-string Replacement. The leather draw-string involves a little friction; in rare cases of heavy use or damage, it may need to be replaced. Should this happen, you can replace the draw string by 1) purchasing a 1/8” boot string from any boot shop or leather store for about 50 cents, or 2) Pope’s will replace it for free if you send it to us and cover the shipping costs. Most owners of a Pope’s Holster will never wear out the draw-string.
Leather Care. Normally, the natural oils from your hands will keep your holster looking fine. However, if the leather gets a little dry, you may want to add a very light coat of good leather conditioner (not animal fat products).
Deer Crown. The crown itself requires no care. It is triple stitched to the leather flap with 100 pound test nylon string, and the stitching path is grooved so that the string is recessed into the crown; thus no wear to the nylon from outside abrasion will occur.
Belt Loop Full Leather Back. Pope’s has attached a full leather back in place of the normal belt loop. It is built to never wear out or tear away. If it does Pope’s will replace the holster.
Cell Phone Case Fit. Some like their phones to fit snug, while others want a looser fit. If you would like a little looser fit just pull out the sheepskin liner (it will stay attached at the top) and trim off a little of the ½" wool liner with some sharp scissors to get the fit you like.
Snap Closure. The snap closure is only available on the Single Holster. It cannot fit on the Double Holster because its placement would be directly between the tool and maglite. We do not include the snap as a closure for cell phones in order to avoid any undue pressure on the face of the cell phone.
Magnetic Closures. A magnetic closure on a single tool holster will tend to connect to any metal passing by it, including the steel tool. As you retrieve the tool, just leave a finger behind the tool between the tool and the magnet and you can avoid this problem.
